German and Bespoke Kitchen in East Molesey:
Deep Green and Tinted Lacquered Oak
‘Bring the outside In!’ was the command from the client here. We played with various colours and tried to find materials that evoked a natural motif, but also allowed us to design a basically contemporary kitchen. The husband and wife here had some quite differing ideas of how this kitchen should look, and we went through many different iterations of the design to arrive at the combination of a textured lacquer in the green and the slatted Oak, finished beautifully by tinting and then lacquering in acrylic lacquer. The oak doors and the breakfast bar were custom-made by our bespoke workshop based in the UK. The rest of the kitchen supplied by the excellent German manufacturer Brigitte.
Part of the problem to solve here was what to do with the column in the middle of the room. The construction had necessitated leaving the column standing in the position that you see in the pictures, and our design had to find a way to incorporate it into the overall scheme. At first, we toyed with the idea of creating a whole bespoke made series of open shelving around the column, with large wicker baskets at the base. In the end, from close analysis of the renders that our design department produced, it was decided to take the worktop up to one edge of the column and the bespoke breakfast bar up to another. We felt that we wanted to allow as much light to filter unimpeded through the room, from the nice big sliding doors that had just been installed, as possible.
The man of the house insisted that he wanted to have a bar hidden behind pocket doors. We specified the Blum Revego system, a new and game-changing pocket door system that makes this sliding door method really usable. Where previously pocket doors were prone to wobbling disconcertingly and eventually wearing due to their flimsy feel, blum have introduced a system that is smooth as silk and yet robust enough to stand the test of time, trust Blum to come up with a beautifully engineered solution. Upon our suggestion, the client even had a neon style sign made, for that disco feel!
Appliances were a Novy rise-and-fall downdraft extractor, a Caple tall fridge and tall freezer, two Caple wine coolers and two ovens by De Dietrich. The utility room had another freestanding fridge and oven. Sink was a composite by Schock and they had a Quooker with a Cube for sparkling water installed. Dishwasher was by Caple
We were very pleased when the client was happy upon completion that we had accomplished her aim of bringing the outside in! This was another kitchen where our combined bespoke and high quality German supply worked beautifully together to bring this brief to life, so giving the client quite a unique kitchen.
